Letter from a daughter to her father

This is a poem, in the form of a letter, which I wrote to my father, when he was going to start a new role, post 24 years of service in a single organization. A venture he was a little worried and apprehensive about!

Yes, that’s papa.

Hey Dad,

Today is a very big day. A lot of changes are going to take place, trust me, it’s for the good. Here is a letter wishing you all the very best for everything coming ahead.

A confused mind,

A wavering heart,

Unsure of whether, it’s a good start.

All inhibitions,

Piled up as one,

Surface out as inspirations,

To hold back something that’s gone.

Let it go,

Stand up tall,

Take a bow,

And run your stall.

This world is yours,

To make or break,

Jump and reach for the stars,

Even if half the distance is all you can make.

Shed the demons,

Which make you pause.

Fear,

Guilt and the “taboo-ed” loss.

Take a step towards success,

You will find yourself,

With joy in excess!

Mourning for one, dead years ago,

Has no absolute use.

The loss of one that hurt your ego,

Should be thanked profuse.

Your time there is done,

Your work complete.

Here, success is waiting to be won,

Life waiting for a meet.

Go on, give this a chance,

See yourself progress in a trance.

As you give your capabilities,

Innumerable opportunities.

Show the world what you are made of,

What you want isn’t too far above.

With all this said, here’s what I want to add,

Best of luck papa, with you we stand.

If you ever feel low or dejected, I hope this will cheer you up. Sometimes, somethings happen in life. Just trust the almighty and remember,

“Everything is for your good. Everything is destined to happen. You are just playing the role of the character written for you in God’s play.”

Love,

Jhanu
